71 Countries at 30 Years Old

I traveled solo internationally for the first time at 18 years old. I was headed to Windhoek, Namibia for a study abroad experience at the Polytechnic University of Namibia. I remember buying a ludicrously expensive plane ticket ($~1500) and looking forward to my layover in Johannesburg, South Africa. The day that I left, my mom cried at the airport but wished me good luck. On the plane ride, I met a woman from Cape Town and began interviewing her in my typical hyper-curious fashion. Where do you live? What type of food do you eat? What spices do you use?? I asked all of these questions as she chuckled, bemused.

Namibia is when I first got the travel bug! From that point on, I’ve traveled to at least one new country ever year (except for 2013 and 2014!). Below is a breakdown of the countries, year by year.
